2020 Super Bowl Ads We Loved

While it’s never guaranteed that the actual football game will be entertaining, for close to 40 years Americans have been depending on Super Bowl ads to make them laugh, cry and feel inspired. In fact, we shared the history of Super Bowl advertisements in a blog post last year, check it out here

We’re doing it again this year. And though the reviews were mixed on this year’s batch of ads, here’s a roundup of the 2020 Super Bowl ads worth noting:

Hyundai – Smaht Pahk

Why we loved it: One of the key parts of a successful ad campaign is that it’s memorable. This ad definitely was. It’s clever, amusing and had us all perfecting our Boston accents.

Doritos – Cool Ranch

Why we loved it: Inspiration for an ad campaign can be as simple as a new spin on your own brand name. When Doritos debuted their “Cool Ranch” dance-off commercial this year, it became a quick favorite for us. And, we’re suckers for Sam Elliott, so how could we not love it?

Google – Loretta

Why we loved it: What may have been missing from other Super Bowl advertisements, Google leaned into. Storytelling. This ad struck an emotional chord and created a connection we can all relate to – loss, love and memories. Well done, Google.

Jeep – Groundhog Day

Why we loved it: New isn’t always better. Jeep reinvented the film ‘Groundhog Day’ with their own twist and demonstrated how you can use a familiar narrative to reach a new audience. And come on, it features Bill Murray, so it was easy to love it.

New York Life Insurance – Love Takes Action

Why we loved it: This ad may have flown under the radar for some, but was another emotional and inspirational spot that we connected with. The insurance company’s message “Love Takes Action” spurs us all to take action for the ones we love and we couldn’t agree more.
