What does it mean to be a Boise Marketing Agency in 2018?

Ten years ago, if you told a San Franciscan or New Yorker that you work for a Boise marketing agency, they might have looked at you a little funny.

Why? It seems a bit dismissive, right?

That may be true, but most people think all great marketing agencies are in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Resident marketers in those cities wear the title with honor. Let’s face it, being referred to as a “New York Marketing Agency” has a perceived distinction.

Back then, we were more likely to hear, “why should I hire a Boise marketing agency?” when pitching marketing services than “let’s roll!”

Fast forward to 2018. The responses are far different. Today, it sounds a little more like this:

“Boise, that’s really cool, I’ve seen some great work coming out of Boise.”

Until recently, Boise hasn’t had marketing cachet. But things change very quickly in the marketing game.

What changed to make a Boise marketing agency seem cool to the jaded marketers I know?

If you live in Boise, you know the answer is simple — the lifestyle has garnered major media attention. Growth has ensued.

According to Forbes, good or bad, Boise is the fastest growing city in America. Per their article, “In 2017, it exceeded expansion expectations by nearly every metric that matters. Its population of around 220,000 grew 3.08% in 2017, more than any other major metro. Employment increased by 3.58%, the second strongest growth around. Home prices, a proxy for wealth, increased 11.58%—number four in the U.S. Meanwhile, wage and the broader economic growth far outpaced national averages.”

With this level of growth, it comes as no surprise that attitudes about Boise have changed. Especially when people are leaving California cities in droves.

Which brings us to the question, what does it mean to be a Boise marketing agency in 2018?

Without a doubt, Boise has more cachet than ever. As markets grow, people start to see business opportunities. Companies begin looking for services and are happy to look further on the map — with open minds.

For the marketing industry itself, the talent pools get wider. A few years ago, it was difficult for Boise marketing agencies to pull talent from the Bay Area or New York. Over the past year, we have heard from marketers from all over the US looking for work – all of them interested in moving to Boise.

As Boise’s profile grows nationally, people move, and businesses start and grow.  We at Duft Watterson are having more and more opportunities to go up against New York and San Francisco agencies in RFPs — and win.

It’s happening, folks.

So, what does it mean to be a Boise marketing agency in 2018?

It means you have an opportunity. You have a runway to success. You are in a good business at the right time.

For us, it’s a great time to be Duft Watterson — we love Boise, we love seeing great things happening in our city, and we’re proud to be a part of it.
